Program Overview

This program is designed to help educators understand and use Generative AI responsibly in educational settings. It focuses on guidance before adoption, helping teachers, school leaders, and institutions make informed decisions about when AI should be used, when it should be limited, and when it should not be used.

The course does not simply teach how to use AI tools. It helps participants understand the ethical, legal, pedagogical, and institutional responsibilities that must guide AI use in education. The program is built around the principle that AI may support educational work, but it must not replace human judgment, professional responsibility, or meaningful learning

Program Objectives

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what Generative AI is, how it works, and why its outputs must always be reviewed by humans.
  • Recognize the limitations of AI, including the risks of misinformation, bias, over-reliance, and false confidence.
  • Explain why AI guidance should come before AI adoption in schools and learning environments.
  • Identify ethical risks related to fairness, learner agency, transparency, care, and dignity.
  • Understand legal and data protection concerns related to student information, consent, ownership, and automated decision-making.
  • Evaluate whether an AI use case is educationally justified, contextually appropriate, and ethically sound.
  • Apply conditional-use thinking to determine when AI is acceptable, when it requires safeguards, and when it should not be used.
  • Distinguish between AI as a support tool and AI as a replacement for professional judgment.
  • Develop readiness awareness by examining values, safeguards, intent, accountability, and oversight.
  • Prepare to move from AI guidance into AI competency development in a structured and responsible way.

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • After completing the program, participants will be able to:
  • Describe Generative AI in simple educational terms and explain why it predicts outputs rather than truly understanding content.
  • Identify common misconceptions about AI, including the belief that AI is neutral, objective, or capable of replacing teaching.
  • Assess AI risks in education across ethical, legal, data protection, and pedagogical dimensions.
  • Judge whether an AI activity supports learning or bypasses essential thinking, practice, and feedback.
  • Design basic AI-use boundaries for students, teachers, and institutions.
  • Apply a conditional-use framework to classify AI use as acceptable, conditional, or non-acceptable.
  • Explain the importance of human-in-the-loop decision-making in grading, feedback, planning, and institutional decisions.
  • Recognize when an institution or classroom is not yet ready for AI adoption.
  • Use structured questions to evaluate AI tools and use cases before implementation.
  • Connect responsible AI guidance with future teacher and student AI competency frameworks.
